“THE NATIONAL 1950’S/60’S ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FAN CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN” IS SET TO LAUNCH .”
THE BIG LAUNCH NIGHT on the 30th April 2011
A new, daring venture is on the horizon, which will be officially opened on Saturday 30th April 2011, with an extravaganza of a show to be held at The Gordon Craig concert hall in the Stevenage arts & leisure centre, Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
The show will hold over 1000 Rock ‘N’ Roll fans in a sit down theatre style performance.
Carl Chapman, who is the clubs founder & Executive Director, says, “This grand launch will be a one off in Rock ‘N’ Roll history & will consist of a great line-up of bands.”
The show will kick off with a special opening musical performance by kid
Rock ‘N’ Rollers, with Cody Lee on Piano & Vocals & Dion Marlow on Double Bass.
This will be followed by a Bill Haley & The Comets tribute by the fantastic & energetic stage show of “Phil Haley & His Comments”.
The crowd will then be wowed by a variety of top tribute artists, performing as:
Buddy Holly (Marc Robinson), Roy Orbison (Barry Steele), Johnny Cash (Peter Jackson), Billy Fury (Gavin Stanley), The Big Bopper (Jaymz Denning), & Eddie Cochran (Peter Jackson), who will all perform some of their hit songs with a backing band.
There will then be a special ribbon cutting to officially mark the launch of the club, with a charity cheque presentation & photo call on stage, led by Carl, with a Marilyn Monroe look-a-like also gracing the stage.
As this is such a big project, the organizers of the event are flying in a very special guest to cut the ribbon & perform for the audience.
Ricky Valance has graciously accepted the clubs invitation, & will perform his world famous hit “Tell Laura I Love Her”, which topped the British charts in September 1960.
Ricky will then perform “Butterfly”, as well as performing a couple of up-tempo rockers with The Jailhouse Cats.
The Jailhouse Cats will then stay on stage to perform their Sun sessions Elvis set
Unbelievably, as if all of this wasn’t enough, to finish the show in style, The Jets (who have had over 60 Major T.V. appearances) will be performing their greatest hits.
These guys have literally played everywhere & are a highly polished band, not to mention a great bunch of guys.
A “festival” P.A. system & engineers are being hired to ensure great sound on the night.
There will be a variety of stalls at the event, & Strollin’ Steve will be the events compere & D.J. There will also be a fully licensed bar.
The show will also be raising funds for a well-known children’s charity, & a percentage of all proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated on the night.
Ticket prices will be a mere £25 & can only be bought via the Gordon Craig Theatre box office on 01438 363200 or via their website.
The founder & director of: “THE NATIONAL 1950’S/60’S ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FAN CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN” is Carl Chapman, who successfully ran Hertfordshire Rock ‘N’ Roll club in the 1980’s & early 1990’s & was in fact the original founder of “The King Creole Rock ‘N’ Roll club”.
THE BIG NATIONAL PUBLICITY STUNT
Carl himself is certainly no stranger to large events, as he created an enormous publicity stunt back in late 1990, when he fashioned his own wedding in a 70’s Elvis-style ceremony & reception.
The night before the wedding, Carl was interviewed live on The Terry Wogan show, which aired to over 7 million viewers.
This T.V. appearance was evidently responsible for propelling the wedding out of control, & into somewhat of a “frenzy”, with a presence of various media, who unexpectedly turned up in the hopes of getting some form of coverage.
More than 5 T.V stations were present, along with both National & local press, which led to one National T.V. company saying “You’d think you were at a Royal wedding”.
Unbelievably, various members of the media actually followed Carl on his honeymoon to The Elvis Festival, which led to the promoters of the festival being unhappy that so much focus was on Carl, & not on the event itself
This in turn led to a comment in a National fan club magazine, which read “How comes Carl Chapman gets all the media attention, when the likes of the ordinary Elvis fan gets little or none.”
In a turn up for the books, footage of the actual wedding aired on BBC look east & Anglia TV, amongst others, which led to Carl having 14 TV appearances, including:
This morning with Richard & Judy, which was recorded & aired in a 2 part documentary on Granada TV.
Carl says: “We plan to be campaigners to keep Rock ‘N’ Roll alive & active in Great Britain & be a voice between the National media (T.V. Press, Radio & Magazines) & the fans, the bands, the DJ’s, the stars, the organizers & the promoters.
We need your urgent help & support for our National campaign to find all Rock ‘N’ Roll fans in every corner of Great Britain, & for them to contact us & to get involved in our future projects, activities & functions.
Carl has already involved several people from the Rock ‘N’ Roll scene & has a dedicated team of organizers helping him.
THE BIG DREAM
His dream is to unite all of the elements of Rock ‘N’ Roll together & to promote our music & culture in order to make the scene bigger & better for everyone concerned, thus making sure that Rock ‘N’ Roll is truly here to stay.
Carl states that his intention is not to set this up to rival any promoters, no matter how big, or small they might be, but to help them with filling their clubs, promoting their events, getting DJ’s & bands for them & lots & lots more.
“THE NATIONAL ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FAN CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN” has already launched itself on Facebook, where you will be able to find out more about events & news, not to mention details of how to join the fan club, or how to climb on board, & you can email us at: hertsrockinclub@hotmail.co.uk
